This was my view at two consecutive stoplights:
About a mile prior to this, I made a left turn at a light with a blinking yellow and was greeted by a horn and screeching tires... from a dark gray car with no lights on, speeding through the fog at 7:30 in the morning.
I could have been T-boned because I never even saw him.
Keep your lights on. Mine are always on. It makes it easier for other drivers to see me, even in the daylight. Don’t worry about your precious hideaway lights. Just turn on parking lights. You’ll be fine.

At some point, it will just be mandatory that all cars be equipped with automatic headlights that cannot be turned off.

I hate DRLs for one simple fact, people forget to turn on there lights at night and drive around with no tail lights on at night.

NoVA? I drove to work today with everything clear, and looked out my window after sitting at my desk for 10-15 minutes and it was really dense fog.

Be careful using parking lights only...that’s illegal in a ton of jurisdictions.
Ex. California:
No vehicle shall be driven at any time with the parking lamps lighted except when the lamps are being used as turn signal lamps or when the headlamps are also lighted.
I agree it’s all around safer and you’re really unlikely to get pulled over for it, but if a unit is out fishing it gives them a solid reason for pulling you over to search for other violations.

I have certainly seen worse conditions and people still with their lights off. DRLs and auto lights are the culprits here. Also digital gauges that you can still see even with the lights off. Even if I somehow forgot to turn on my headlights, there is no way I would get anywhere because all of my gauges would be dark which would certainly throw me a red flag that I forgot something lol.

Another great invention, lights come on automatically when wipers come on

Two lanes? At least my driving lights
High-speed two lanes? Full headlights.
Any rain or fog? Full headlights and maybe fogs, too.
Yes, I’ve thought it through, unlike a lot of people who are either “All off unless it’s pitch black” or “Broad daylight with all my front AND rear foglights on” (I’m looking at you, Mercedes people).

Same scene today in L.A. I use my headlights, but even then I added funcitonal DRLs to my car to be more visible, no matter the situation.
